Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

The Surftech Lido is a stable, non-inflatable paddle board that is an affordable option for paddlers of all skill levels. Priced at only $899 the Lido is a super rugged board that is great for beginners and can handle and survive heavy use. The board is best suited for all around paddling and short distances, around the beach or dock. The Lido is also considerably lightweight seeing as it was originally designed for the rental market but has now expanded for all consumers and the composite construction keeps weight relatively low compared to all plastics boards.

First Impressions

This is one of the most revolutionary boards in the standup paddle market in that it has an affordable price, an incredibly durable construction, and yet this board that should have been a very heavy board because of its plastic construction it's not as heavy as you would imagine. To add to even more of the value of this board, it now comes with very attractive graphics, added features like bungee cords and handles throughout the board. This is a non-inflatable board, otherwise known as a composite and is made out of plastic and is a beautiful package all around. On the water, the board is very stable but the glide is slow which is to be expected since lightweight construction and speed-centric design are only marginally incorporated here. Overall, the Lido is an excellent choice for those looking for a great rental board but also as a board for the family that will handle heavy use.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    All Around

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Rugged

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Average

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Very Stable

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Slow

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.

Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).

  • Volume

    220 L

Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.

  • Capacity

    n/a

Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.

  • Add On's

Handles directly affect carrying ease, with external grip handles (Liftsup & EZgrab) offering most comfort, Internal Ergo Grip the mid-tier comfort, and box handles as least comfortable.

Previous Versions: 2019

The 2018 Lido was one of the boards of the year, with its incredibly light and yet very durable technology. It’s really changing the game when it comes to durability and weight. In 2019, Surftech has launched a consumer option, whereas in 2018 the Lido was primarily designed for the rental space. Now consumers can pick one from the lineup with a combination of a wooden pattern and traction pads that match. You have bungee cords on the front and back and a nice handle on the tail. If you’re in the market for a whole package - board and paddle - at a very reasonable price point and with a very durable construction, the 2019 Surftech Lido is worth a look. On the water, the board is very stable but the glide is slow which is to be expected since lightweight construction and speed-centric design are only marginally incorporated here. Overall, the Lido is an excellent choice for those looking for a great rental board but also as a board for the family that will handle heavy use.
